Memoir covers often start with a family photograph: a wedding portrait, a childhood picture, the house where it all happened. Used well, an old photo gives a cover warmth no stock image can match. Used badly, a faded or low-resolution print makes the whole book look amateur.
We help Roodepoort authors choose and prepare the right image, restore what can reasonably be restored, and build the title and typography around it. If no family photo works, a stock image or simple typographic cover can still feel personal.
Designing covers for Roodepoort’s life stories
Roodepoort and the wider West Rand have many long-established families, and a good share of the covers we design for the area are for memoirs, family histories and community books. These are read by people who knew the subject, so the cover needs to feel right to them first.
Scan photographs at 300 dpi or higher rather than photographing them with a phone, and send several options. Our studio in Fourways is close to the Honeydew side of Roodepoort if you would rather bring the originals in.
