A memoir or family history is usually written in Word over months or years, with photographs saved in folders and notes about where each should go. Layout brings it together: the text is set as readable book pages, chapters open consistently, and photographs are placed beside the part of the story they illustrate.
Text-only memoirs suit Basic Layout at R12 per page. If your book includes photographs, choose Standard Layout at R13 per page, which covers images. A 180-page memoir with photographs comes to about R2,340.
Layouts for Roodepoort’s life stories
Roodepoort and the wider West Rand have many long-established families, and a good number of the books we typeset for the area are life stories, family histories and community records. These books are read by relatives who want to find people and events quickly, so clear chapter headings and a consistent structure matter.
Old photographs need care. Scan prints at 300 dpi or higher at the size they will appear in the book, rather than photographing them with a phone, and number them to match notes in your manuscript.
